04.4 Call Pickup Groups

Often a nearby phone will ring on a colleagues desk when they are away and it would be handy if you could answer the phone for them, using your own desk phone.

Call Pickup allows you to do this.

Call Pickup is defined via the Handset. Menu: Provision | Handset

When using Call Pickup you should remember that if more than one phone is ringing in the Call Group then the phone you actually answer will be selected randomly.

To use call pickups you need to do two things.

1) separate your phones into one or more Call Groups.

Generally you want to put phones into a Call Group which are physically close to each other.

2) For each extension you need to define the list of Call Groups the extension can pickup calls form.

Pay close attention to the following definitions as its easy to get them confused.

So to setup up a CallPick up edit each individual handset and set the following fields:

Call Group – A Call Group is used to place a handset into a call group. Once in a call group a ringing handset can be answered from any extension (by dialing *8) which is permitted to to perform a call pickup for that Call Group (see Pickup Group).
A Call Group is an integer value in the range 0-63.

A handset can belong to multiple Call Group's by adding them as a comma separated list.

e.g. 1,7,32

This handset belongs to the Call Groups, 1, 7 and 32

Pickup Group – Defines the set of 'Call Groups' this extension can pick up calls from. If an extension is ringing which belongs to a 'Call Group' that this handset has listed in its Pickup Group, then this extension can can pickup the call by dialing *8.

Multiple Call Groups can be specified using a comma separated list. A range of call groups can be defined using an lower and upper bound separated by a hyphen.

e.g. 1,9-11

This allows the handset to pick up calls from handsets in the call groups 1, 9, 10 and 11.
