Adding a voice mail box

To create a new voice mail box start by creating a handset as per the standard method. Ensure that you set the 'Mailbox' field to the expected mailbox number. This will normally be the same as the extension number.

Once completed create a new voice mail box. The 'Mailbox' field should be the same as the value entered when creating the handset.

You may optionally enter the Full Name and email address of the user. If you enter an email address and select 'Yes' in the Send Voice Mail Message' field then voice mails will be emailed to the user. You should leave all other settings to their default value.

Unique integer id used to identify the mailbox.

Password for this mailbox. The password can be change through the GUI or via the voice mail IVR.

The Asterisk context the mailbox is available from. This will normally be 'default' but may change depending on your dial plan.

Full Name

Normally the user's full name. If this is a group mail box then use an appropriately descriptive name.

Email

The email address to send voice mail notifications to. This requires an SMTP server to be configured to operate.

Pager

The Pager number to send voice mail notifications to. This requires an external Pager interface to operated.

Timezone

The format of the timezone field is Country/City. The set of time zones which can be used are located in the directory as /usr/share/zoneinfo.

Send as Attachment

If set to yes and the 'Email' field has been filled out, then voice mails will sent as an attached WAV file as part of the email notification.

Review Message

If set to yes callers will be able to review their voice mail message before it is saved.

Operator

If set to yes the caller will be able to speak to an operator by dialing '0'. This feature requires dial plan modifications.

Replay Envelope

Control whether asterisk will play the message envelope (date and time) before each message is played when reviewing messages.

Replay Duration

Controls whether asterisk will play the duration of the message when a message is being reviewed.

Minimum Duration to Replay

Sets the threshold (in seconds) below which the Duration will not be replayed. Only meaningful if 'Replay Duration' is set to Yes.

Send Voice mail Message

Controls whether the voice mail is sent as an email address. Only meaningful if the 'Email' address field has been configured.

Delete after Email

If set to yes the voice mail message will be deleted once it has been sent as an email. Setting the option to Yes means that voice mail messages cannot be retrieved via the users handset.

Auto Play Next

When reviewing voice mail messages controls whether the next voice mail is played automatically.

Must Record Name

Controls whether the voice mail box owner must record their name.

Must Record Greeting

Controls whether the voice mail box owner must record a greeting.

Hide from Directory

If set to yes this mailbox will not be accessible from the voice directory (if the voice directory has been enabled).
