03.5.2. Add a handset

Add a handset

When using Noojee Provision the simplest way to create a handset is to simply plug it into the network. Noojee Provision will then configure the phone and create the necessary entries for the handset to operate.

Noojee Provision creates the following entries in Noojee Administrator:

  • Handset – will create an extension set to the next available extension number.

  • Voicemail – will create an voicemail box linked to the above extension number

  • White Pages – will create a directory listing for the above extension number.

  • Account – will create an account with the username and password set to the above extension number.

Please note that it is not possible to automatically provision soft phones.

If you are not using Noojee Provision then the Administrator will need to create each of the above entries manually as well as configuring the handset manually. See your handset user guide for additional details.

Once you have added a handset via Noojee Provision you may want to update the following information in Noojee Administrator.

  • White Pages Directory

    • Change the Firstname, Surname, Mobile number and email address of the entry

    • Changing the names improves the ability for users to search the White Pages.

    • Entering the user's mobile number allows the mobile number to be dialed via 'click to dial' from the White Pages.

    • Entering the email address will automatically activate delivery of voicemails to the user email inbox. Note: changing the email address in the white pages automatically updates the voicemail box email address setting.

  • Voicemail

    • No changes are normally required here unless you want to improve security by updating the mailbox password.

  • Handset

    • Update the Caller ID field to reflect the users name. Once set the Caller ID will be presented on internal calls. Depending on the handset brand you may need to reboot the handset for this to take affect.

    • To improve security update the handsets password. Note: this will require the handset to be reset before it will take affect.

    • Note: Until the handset is reset it WILL loose the ability to make/take calls.

  • Account

    • Update the Accounts username and password and enter the users email address so that the forgotten password service functions.
