Handset Basic

Handsets

Each telephone, whether a deskphone or a soft phone, must have a Handset definition in Noojee Admin. Each Handset must have a unique extension.

If you are using Noojee Provision when you plug in a new deskphone (this doesn't work for soft phones) into the network a Handset definition will be automatically created with a default extension no. being allocated from a pool of available extensions.

Changing the Extension No.

You can change the extension no. of a handset by selecting the 'Change Extension' Action (bottom left hand corner of the screen) and clicking the 'Apply' button. You will then be asked for the new Extension no. Once the Extension no. has been reset you will need to update the phone. If you are using Noojee Provision simply reboot the phone. If you are using a soft phone you will need to manually update the phones settings.

Fields

Fields Explanation
Extension The extension no. for this handset. The extension no. is the no. used to dial this handset.
Display The value to display on the handset. This is normally the same as the Extension no. but you could set it to anything you want displayed on your handset such as your name.
Caller ID

If set allows you to control the Caller ID your phone will display when you make an external call.

The handsets extension no. is always used when dialing internal numbers.

If you have a Caller ID set on your account (and its attached to your handset) then the Accounts Caller ID will over-ride any handset Caller ID settings.

Voicemail Box The voicemail box for this handset. If you don't answer a call or reject a call the caller will be sent to your Voicemail box where they can leave a message.
Office The office where this handset is located. The office controls both the 'Area Code' used when dialing local numbers as well as the security settings for this handset. If the handset has an office with an incorrect Area Code then attempts to dial local numbers may fail. If the handset is attached to the wrong office then it may not be able to connect to the phone system.
Secret

The password used to authenticate the phone. The password is auto generated. You can reset the password by clicking the 'New Secret' button. You should only need to do this when a user leaves the organisation and you want to re-use their existing handset. In this case it is important that you reset the Secret.

If you are using Noojee Provision you can simply reboot the phone for it to pick up the new secret. For a soft phone (such as xlite) you will need to manually update the password.
